SUNU Assurances Ghana LTD, a leading non-life insurance provider, is a part of a global group that covers all insurance categories. They are currently looking for an experienced professional with extensive industry knowledge and expertise to take on the role of HEAD OF ACCOUNT.
Job Purpose
You will uphold responsible financial practices that provide strong support for the company's operations and initiatives and oversee strategic planning and the administration of financial and management accounting systems, as well as the development and implementation of relevant policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- You will assist in the creation of the Company's strategic initiatives, investments, and programs, provide financial modeling, forecasting, and analysis.
- Provide thorough budget templates, policies, and reporting systems. Then, keep an eye on things to make sure that all departments and branch offices complete and submit their budget inputs on time.
- You will prepare the company's total operating budget for evaluation and approval by analyzing the budget inputs from all departments and branch offices.
- Take the lead in creating the Account Department's yearly operational budget and oversee its execution.
- It's important to establish and maintain efficient methods and procedures to analyze budgetary performance for the approved budget. By monitoring the creation of revenue and spending variance analysis in comparison to the approved budget, any discrepancies can be promptly corrected.
- Additionally, you will organize weekly marketing meetings involving all marketing teams to review weekly actions and performance. You would assume a leading role in the establishment and upkeep of internal financial controls and ensure correct balances through efficient monitoring of all system accounts.
- It's important to keep an eye on critical financial risk indicators and make a positive impact on the company's overall control environment.
- Creating systems for accounts payable and receivable and overseeing their execution to ensure that all payments follow authorized financial policies and norms is crucial. Furthermore, you will be checking that accounting controls, reports, and transactions are accurate, complete, and compliant with both internal and external accounting standards and rules is part of the responsibility.
- Monitoring whether statutory payments and deductions such as SSNIT, taxes, and withholding taxes are being made is essential. It's important to establish and maintain connections with pertinent authorities for statutory payments and deductions.
- The creation and oversight of a Fixed Assets Register to guarantee adherence to authorized regulations and guidelines is necessary. Keeping an eye on expenses and costs and compiling pertinent reports to help management make decisions is an important function.
- Creating and maintaining suitable accounting control systems to guarantee good financial management is critical. Establishing procedures, anti-fraud rules, and procurement regulations for the company and overseeing their execution to ensure compliance is part of the responsibility.
- You will act as the main point of contact for all financial transactions involving SUNU Assurances' several Banks, under the established protocol, which is an important aspect of your role. Additionally, overseeing and evaluating the company's balance sheet to ensure there are enough resources available to cover operating expenses is part of the responsibility.
- Overseeing the evaluation of investments for prospective ventures, conducting due diligence and financial research, and submitting the evaluation to the Management Investment Committee and the Chief Executive Officer is a vital function. It's also important to oversee the investment process and consult with legal counsel to draft appropriate investment agreements, as needed.
- Keeping up to date with laws, international best practices in financial management, and IFRS norms and regulations is crucial. Making sure that all reporting systems for management and financial accounting comply with International Financial Reporting Standards and legal obligations is an essential aspect of the role.
The Ideal Candidate
- You should be a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of insurance accounting concepts as set out by IFS and other relevant standards.
- You should have a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field and should have a minimum of eight years of work experience, with at least five years in a managerial role.
- Professional qualifications such as ACCA, ICAG, or similar certifications are a prerequisite, and membership in a recognized professional association is preferred.
- Additionally, proficiency in using insurance tools and software is essential for this role, as well as a high level of skill in utilizing Microsoft Office suites.
